THE countdown is on for the Big Grove Summer Festival after last year’s wash out.

The extravaganza was cancelled in 2012 because of floods and organisers had trouble finding a site for this year’s event.

Now the music festival and community event will go ahead on Saturday at the Oval off Grove Road.

Sarah Whiteside, one of the organisers, said: “The preparations are going well.

“It is all coming together at the last minute.

“Fingers crossed the weather will be okay.

“Tickets are selling well and the countdown is on.”

Organisers have had to limit visitor numbers to 400.

Bands will include Flybone Yellow, Thomas & The Mock Ups, Surfin’ Birds and Cuba Libre.

There will also be Odd Act Sounds providing sounds from a second stage. hot food, a licensed bar, children’s entertainments and traders.

The festival will be from noon to 10pm. Adult tickets are £5, concessions at £2.50.

Children over 12 will be charged full price entry.

Tickets are on sale from Frank Designs on Portland and the sailing academy at Osprey Quay.

People can also buy tickets via Paypal. They need to email or private message on the festival’s Facebook page to order them.

The deluge of July 2012 forced the last-minute cancellation of the Grove Summer Festival last year.

Organisers were forced to pull the plug as rain swamped the site.

But they held a Grove at the Hangar fundraiser in October at the sailing academy to get the event back on track.

They had hoped to stage it in July of this year but had trouble pinning down a site and delayed the event until settling on the Oval, just off Grove Road on Tophill.
