AMATEUR photographers sent in 180 entries for our Summer Snaps photographic contest in association with Abbotsbury Tourism.

Now they are in the frame for a season ticket with free entry to Abbotsbury Swannery, Abbots-bury Sub-Tropical Gardens and Abbotsbury Children’s Farm as judges prepare to pick a winner.

Scenes include atmospheric sunset shots, animals, children, seascapes, countryside and even the Tall Ship Astrid just days before her demise off the coast of Ireland.

Entries – made just before the September deadline – included sunset and sunrise shots by Cathy Warne, Nigel Burden, Pete Vincent, Sue Oliver and Hayley Symonds.

Alan Parkes sent a shot of the Condor Vitesse passing the Nothe on her way out of town plus pictures of rowing boats.

Rob Luxton of Weymouth took an atmospheric shot of sunset on Abbotsbury beach, while the Fleet, West Bay and Portland were also popular locations.

The Olympic rings on Portland have been very popular, while Veronica Boatswain was among those to capture Durdle Door in all of its glory.

Sue Hogben, of Radipole, Weymouth, drew on inspiration from her family members of a series of summer fun shots – including a splash around on Weymouth beach and cricket in the park.

Mick Rose entered a varied series of pictures – including fishermen on the beach, a carnival dancer and a fishing boat disappearing into the mist.

Wildlife was a firm favourite with badgers, moths, cows, dogs and lots of swans among the animals featured.

The winners will be announced soon after judges tackle the tough task of picking their favourite.
