A FRIEND of a woman who died after being pulled from the sea in Bournemouth is hoping to contact those who desperately tried to revive her.

Gerry Eve, 86, from Andover in Hampshire, passed away after being spotted face-down in the water at Alum Chine on September 5.

Christine Halling, 63, who also lives near Andover, was with Gerry and raised the alarm. Gerry was pulled from the sea by quick-thinking beachgoers, who called for help.

A female doctor, who happened to be on the beach at the time, began CPR with two lifeguards, before paramedics arrived and Gerry was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Christine said that, among the frantic scenes on the day, she never had a chance to thank those people who tried to save her friend’s life.

She added: “It was horrible, we had such a lovely day and there was no sign of anything amiss.

“It was a horrible shock.

“I just thought it would be nice to contact those who tried to help. I want to find those people and thank them.

“I also want to make them feel better about it.

“They probably thought they had failed by not resuscitating her, but that wasn’t her wish.”

Christine said Gerry loved to swim and “would have chosen to go the way she did”.

An inquest into Gerry’s death has been opened and a full hearing will take place at a later date.
