CHARITIES received welcome funds from the Dorchester Hand-in-Hand Lodge of Oddfellows at its annual presentation event.
A total of 16 good causes were presented with cheques at the Scout Hall in Sawmills after being nominated by members.
Each charity, group or organisation also spoke briefly about the work it did in the community.
Lodge chairman Gerry Knott said: “It was obvious that it was due to hard work and unpaid dedication of those groups that others benefited.”
A donation of £1,235 was also presented to Cancer Research UK from a charity draw and the South Dorset Prostate Cancer Support Group received £2,788 after being nominated for a grant.
The money will be used to buy test equipment to help spot early signs of the illness.
