NETHERBURY Parish Council is hoping local businesses or individuals will step forward to give a helping hand to a dozen landmark ‘finger posts’.

There are 12 finger post signs in the parish which need refurbishment.

The signposts originally all had round finials on the top, with Ordnance Survey map reference numbers to mark their exact location.

The cost of refurbishing each could be between £400 and £600.

Each post has to be renovated to precise specifications under rules for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The parish council is prepared to help with the cost, but hope that people will make a donation towards the project or even sponsor a whole post.

A parish council spokesman said: “The Furleigh signpost has been adopted by the vineyard and the council would like to encourage other firms or individuals to take on other posts, perhaps by sponsoring a post, or making a donation towards costs.”
