LUKE Burbidge has played his last game for the Terras and is set to return to Poole Town.

The winger confirmed the news to Jason Matthews yesterday after initially telling the Weymouth boss that he wanted to stay, following the Dolphins’ seven-day approach back in January.

Matthews told Echosport: “Luke has confirmed to me that he wants to go back to Poole.

“It’s disappointing, particularly after he told us he was going to stay, but he thinks Poole are going to do things this season and that was the reason he gave for leaving.”

Burbidge is set to go on holiday for two weeks and is expected to link back up with the Dolphins when he returns.

Poole are currently lying seventh in the Calor Southern Premier Division, nine points off the play-offs, but with several games in hand on the teams above them.

The Terras, who now sit 13th, were scheduled to entertain Burnham last night but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

With several players out injured, Matthews described the postponement as a “blessing in disguise”.

He added: “It gives some of the lads a few more days to recover from their injuries, so it is not a bad thing to be honest.

“My aim now is to try and get a couple of new faces in for Saturday’s home game against Banbury.

“I have been busy on the phone and I am hoping to have some more news on that over the next couple of days.”
