THE wonderfully bonkers Kepow Theatre Company, pictured, returns to Dorset next month with a comedy that touches on all the edgiest experiences of life.

On the Edge! explores those moments in life when we are just that – on the edge. From falling in love and leaving home, to getting a job and bungee jumping, this fast-moving show explores it all with humour and just a bit of soul-searching.

Using a clever combination of sketches, monologues, puppetry and masks, Kepow create funny and poignant scenes.

Their first Artsreach tour with The Seven Ages of Man was a massive hit in the county and this one promises to be just as brilliantly inventive, if not more so.

Kepow founder Kevin Tomlinson said: “We have performed this show about 400 times all over the UK and around the world.

“It’s a light-hearted look at the times when we are on the edge in life – it could be on the edge of moving house, changing school, getting married, anything you are doing for the first time.”

The show takes the form of Whose Line is it Anyway?, with audience members suggesting scenarios and objects which the cast then weave into a story.

“It’s the perfect show for anyone aged between seven and 107,” said Kevin.

“We do try and vary the suggestions and questions, so last night the occupations that we chose to do were model and undertaker.

“It’s not just mucking about, we try to create touching things as well as great theatre, so as well as making people laugh we actually get to do some proper acting.”

Formed in 1991, Kepow are now considered one of Europe’s leading improvisation and mask-based theatre companies.

Kevin, who says he was most ‘on edge’ when the first of his two children was born, added: “We love it, because no matter what country we are in, people have the same sense of humour when you tackle the big issues like parents, children and relationships.”

You can see On The Edge at Shipton Gorge village hall on April 2, Piddletrenthide village hall on April 4, West Stafford village hall on April 5 and Halstock village hall on April 6.

Performances are at 7.30pm.
