A MEMORY tree is being created at Dorchester’s Borough Gardens to mark Dementia Awareness Week.
On Friday people will be invited to tie a ribbon to the tree between 10am and 4pm to honour people they know living with dementia or loved ones who have been lost to a dementia-related illness.
There will also be an information stand where people can find out more about the work of the Alzheimer’s Society.
It is one of several events being held in Dorchester and the rest of the county to mark the awareness week.
Services manager for the Alzheimer’s Society in Dorset Jo Malyon said: “Dementia has replaced cancer as the health condition people fear most.
“It is therefore no surprise that many people feel confused or even ashamed to talk about it.
“We all bury our heads in the sand from time to time but it is important to seek help.
“The sooner you know what you’re dealing with, the sooner you can get on with your life and feel in control again.
“This event is a great opportunity find out more about how Alzheimer’s Society can help you.”
Dorchester Dementia Action Alliance is currently working towards making Dorchester a Dementia Friendly Community with several businesses supporting the initiative.
