A DEDICATED housekeeping assistant at Dorset County Hospital is set to lord it up after receiving national recognition.

Roz Mesney is preparing to head off to the House of Lords to receive a Jubilee Award for service in recognition of her dedication to her role cleaning the hospital’s emergency department.

The awards programme celebrates the outstanding service of people working in the public sector and is run by the Jubilee Centre for Character and Values at the University of Birmingham.

The awards recognise people who go above and beyond their remit, dedicate their working life to helping others or who have made a significant contribution to the lives of others through their work.

Public sector workers from across the country were nominated by grateful colleagues, friends and members of the public and Roz was chosen as one of 14 winners who will receive their awards at a ceremony at the House of Lords next month.

Roz, who has worked in the emergency department for 16 years and 24 years in total at Dorset County Hospital, was nominated by the hospital’s executive team.

Her nomination read: “Roz is the epitome of professionalism.

“She goes about her work in a seamless fashion and takes immense pride in doing a good job.

“She never needs to be asked and has the foresight to pre-empt what needs to be done.

“Roz receives many compliments about her work and her kind, calm and gentle manner makes her popular with both staff and patients. She always has a smile on her face, is discreet and is always willing to go beyond the remit of her role to help others.

“A great example of Roz’s dedication to her role was when she purchased a pair of specialist walking boots at her own expense to ensure that she could make it into work during the snowstorms of 2012 so as not to let the department down.

“The organisation is lucky to have such a jewel in their crown.”

Roz is now in her seventies but has chosen to carry on working because she loves her job.

She said: “I was very shocked when I heard that I had been chosen for the award.

“Once I got over the surprise I was really pleased.

“I just come in every day and get on with my job, I don’t expect an award for doing it, but it’s very nice to be recognised in this way.

“It’s a pleasure working in the emergency department.

“All the staff here are lovely, very professional, but so friendly.

“They are a wonderful team and everyone works together so well.”
