PORTLAND Coastguards helped rescue two stranded yachts yesterday.
The first incident happened at 8.52am, when the control room received a 999 call from a person reporting their yacht had suffered engine failure.
The yacht, called Rainbow, had three people on board when it broke down, just outside the entrance to Christchurch Harbour.
As the local RNLI lifeboat prepared to launch, the people on board managed to restart the vessel and the lifeboat crew watched the yacht return to the harbour and dock safely.
At 8.55pm, coastguards mobilised the Weymouth RNLI after a 12-metre yacht, called Winfrith, suffered engine failure just east of Portland Bill.
Due to wind conditions, another yacht named Skep,sailed close to the broken down yacht until the RNLI arrived, who then towed the vessel back to Weymouth Harbour, where the person on board was assisted by Wyke Regis Coastguards.
