I realise that your readers are probably becoming heartily sick of hearing about the shambolic state of affairs at Victory Hall recently but I cannot find anyone to “lend me an ear” so to speak and therefore tender the following for your appraisal in the hope that it will not continue to fall on stony ground.

I was one of the many people who attended the totally disorganised ‘meeting’ at Victory Hall in Chickerell.

I had taken the trouble to log on to the council’s website and read the report made by the consultants with respect to the ex-army land at Camp Road.

I discovered that seven of the 13 points the consultants had chosen to examine were incorrectly marked and, in fact, marked in such a way as to make the site appear more suitable for development than it really is!

If you wish to examine the facts, I will supply you with their markings and my corrections to their markings, complete with my reasons for changes.

When I squeezed my way in to the hall, the first person I spoke to was a member of the clergy whom I asked to direct me to someone I could talk to with respect to the proposals.

The gentleman in question immediately started to regale me with a well rehearsed spiel on how marvellous, kind and gentle folk the travellers were.

When I told him that all I wanted to do was talk to someone about the site report and I wasn’t there to berate individuals he lost interest and wandered off.

I eventually found a young lady who claimed to be a member of the company who was respon-sible for the report (Peter Brett Associates).

I tried to set out my arguments with respect to the errors in the report and she seemed totally perplexed and was unable to help me!

At this point the hall was so full of people milling around aim-lessly I was unable to continue, and so I sought some fresh air and left with my questions unanswered. What a waste of everyone’s time. I felt particularly upset for a number of disabled individuals who had made the effort to get there only to be jostled around.
