STAFF from the Kingfisher Ward at Dorset County Hospital braved the rain to take on a fundraising walk.
The wet weather could not stop five walkers completing a 20-mile circular route from Maiden Castle while a further 13 walkers, including two children and two dogs, completed a ten-mile route.
The successful event has already raised more than £800 towards a refurbishment of the Kingfisher Ward and money is continuing to come in.
Ward sister Hilary Brocklehurst said: “All were incredibly wet in the rain but kept their spirits up the whole time and were very pleased when the sun made an appearance at lunch time.”
She added: “We would like to thank everyone for taking part and our sponsors – Dorset Water Centre, Hunts Food Service and Dorset Cereals – and also for the generous donations we have received.” The vital development work at the ward include plans for a bigger higher dependency unit so that fewer young patients will have to travel to Southampton for treatment.
