I grew up in Weymouth and now pay council tax to the town for my holiday home.
It is marvellous that the Victorian shelters on the Esplanade are being renovated and, on Friday afternoon, we saw the hoardings being painted white.
By Sunday, they had been graffitied' by the anti-pier development' protesters. I guess that this vandalism epitomises the attitude of the nihilists.
It is clear to everyone with eyes that Weymouth is a very tired' town that is desperately in need of investment, while the Pavilion/pleasure pier site is hardly a treat for the eye.
By all means fight for the highest quality of architecture, but the redevelopment of the pier is a must do' and if the project can deliver some iconic buildings, all power to the elbows of the council and the developer.
