TWO men have been arrested after a police chase in the Dorchester area that lasted for more than an hour.

Dorset Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident this morning.

The incident unfolded at 7.28am after a vehicle, a red Ford Fiesta which was alleged to have been stolen from Hampshire, failed to stop for police in the Dorchester area.

Police, supported by the force helicopter, pursued the vehicle on the A35 bypass, on to the A354 and into fields at Winterbourne Abbas.

The vehicle was abandoned at 8.40am.

Local officers from Dorchester, who assisted the police’s traffic team in the pursuit, said they used a stinger device on the vehicle and it was able to continue for a short while before the driver and passenger de-camped near to Hardys Monument.

They were apprehended shortly after leaving the vehicle.

The two men have been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police.

Witnesses who saw the car being driven in the Dorchester area between 7.28am and 8.40am are urged to contact Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 22:41.
