FIREFIGHTERS on Portland were called to the same road twice in one evening after reports of two separate fires.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service received a call at around 9.17pm last night and were alerted to a property fire in Woolcombe Road.

Two crews from Portland Fire Station attended and were on the scene within seven minutes.

It was found a fire had been caused in the kitchen involving a dishwasher.

The fire was extinguished with one hose reel jet and firefighters were assisted by two breathing apparatus.

The cause of the fire was believed to have been an electrical fault.

There was 100 per cent fire damage to the dishwasher, 50 per cent damage to the worktop and adjacent appliances, and 80 per cent smoke damage to the kitchen.

There was light smoke damage to the rest of the property.

Hours later, the service was informed of another incident in the same road.

At around 1am, the service received reports of a fire involving a bin store at flats on Woolcombe Road.

Two crews from Portland Fire Station attended the scene and extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet.

The cause of the fire was thought to be malicious.
