I am writing with a measure of desperation at what I see around me as regards global warming.

To my simple way of thinking we have a basic choice - we either believe that which the world of science is telling us or we disbelieve in which case we get on and worry about whether Chelsea will overhaul Man United in the Premiership.

If, however, we believe that global warming is the biggest threat to our way of life in my lifetime (70 years) then we need to be taking it seriously and you three can at least set the UK onto the right path.

I suggest the formation of a war cabinet' of all interested political parties to make and enforce the decisions necessary for the UK's contribution to meeting the threat and to doing what we can to influence the remainder of the world.

The formation of such a body would do much to convince our populace that we need to take this seriously and that changes must occur.

Politicians, please do not fail my grandchildren.
