James Hilton, 39, was last seen yesterday in Milton Road, Bournemouth, at around 7.30am.
Mr Hilton was in contact with his family at around 1.30pm but he did not attend work when expected or return home Thursday evening.
His family believe he was in a distressed state of mind.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "If James sees this appeal, please can he make contact with the police to let us know he is safe, as his family are very worried."
Anyone who sees a man matching his description should call Dorset Police on 999 quoting incident 374 of 29th January.
