TWO men and a dog were rescued by firefighters after a blaze swept through a block of flats in Bridport.
The fire damaged the second and third floors of a communal hallway in flats on Alexandra Road in the Skilling area.
Two crews from Bridport and one from Charmouth attended the fire at around 3.20pm and they were joined a short time later by crews from Beaminster and Lyme Regis.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said people were in the flats when they arrived and two men were spotted on the second and third floors. Crews used a 13-metre ladder to rescue the men through the windows. A dog trapped in the building was then rescued by firefighters via the front door.
The fire was under control by 3.45pm and one crew from Bridport remained at the scene until 4.30pm investigating the incident.
A spokeswoman for the service said all tenants from the flats had been accounted for.
She said: "The cause of the fire is not yet known but we would warn people that stairways should be kept free of combustible items.
"There is extensive smoke damage to the second and third floor of the building and some minor damage to the flats on those floors."
