THE COMMUNITY is showing its support for Dorchester Carnival as organisers aim to make 2015 a year to remember.

A dedicated carnival committee is pulling out all the stops for the annual town celebration on Saturday, June 20 and plans are well on track thanks to the support of businesses and other organisations in Dorchester.

Committee member Sandy Jordan said that all three Rotary Clubs in the town - the Dorchester Rotary Club, Casterbridge Rotary Club and Poundbury Rotary Club - were supporting the event and a number of businesses had pledged support to help fund the event, including local funeral directors Grassby and Sons who are sponsoring the winning float.

She said: "We have had huge support from everybody in the town and the fundraising is going really well with local businesses."

The town will get in the carnival mood with the traditional Party in the Park and four legged pub crawl warm up events.

There will be plenty for all the family to enjoy on the Saturday with music, stalls, a funfair and of course the main procession.

Since the Dorchester Round Table stopped running the event two years ago the success of the county town's carnival has been reliant on the support of the local community.

This year's committee say they have been thrilled with the response from those in the town and the appetite amongst the community to help the event succeed.

With last year's events focussing around Brewery Square, Sandy said that this year's carnival will be more inclusive of the whole town - although there will be a display of vintage cars in the square that will join the procession.

She said: "It's very much about the whole town."

Sandy said there had been plenty of take up for the procession, reflecting the general enthusiasm for the event, but added there was always room for more people to sign up to enter floats as they look to get as many groups in the town as possible involved in the parade.

Anyone who is interested in entering a float is asked to email dorchestercarnival@gmail.com or contact Sandy at Jordans Jewellers on 01305 250413.

Events like Dorchester Carnival are always dependent on a dedicated team of marshals and other volunteers to help make the day a success and Sandy said again the committee had been delighted with the number of people volunteering.
