INVESTIGATIONS are continuing after a man died when a wall collapsed on him at a building site in West Dorset.

The 31-year-old died when concrete blocks landed on him as he worked on a site in Somers Road, Lyme Regis on Tuesday.

The air ambulance was called but the man, who suffered head injuries, was declared dead at the scene. Police, firefighters and paramedics all attended.

The site where the man was working is part of the Chatterton Heights development, police said. The Health and Safety Executive said it is aware and is working with Dorset Police.

Insp Mike Darby of Bridport police said: “It is a most distressing, sad and tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the man involved.”

n We have been asked to point out that a picture carried on the front page of yesterday’s Echo showing scaffolding around a property is not the site where the man died. Furthermore, a van shown in the photograph is not connected to the accident site. We are happy to make this clear and apologise for any distress caused.
