TWO events due to be held as part of the Spirit of Portland Festival this weekend have been cancelled due to bad weather.

The family kite flying event at Portland Bill this morning and the Wakeham street party this afternoon have both been called off, but festival organisers are hopeful the events can be rescheduled.

A spokesperson from the Portland Community Partnership (PCP) who have organised the festival, said: “Just to advise due to the possibility of bad weather on Sunday, the Wakeham Street Party and the Kite Festival are cancelled.

“However it is intended to run these instead on Sunday, August 2 at the same times weather permitting.”

The kite flying was due to take place from 11am to 3pm today and the Wakeham street party was due to be held from 2pm.

Organisers didn’t let bad weather dampen their spirits yesterday however, as the Celebration of the Sea event held at Chesil Cove proved a success.

A teddy bear picnic was also held on Friday at St John’s Hall on the island and saw more than 75 people take part.
