A COMMITTED team of chefs used to delivering up school dinners are cooking up a storm in an ambitious venture.

Members of the catering unit at the Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy (IPACA) have decided to throw on their aprons outside of school hours in a bid to generate some much-needed money for the school.

Over the past two years, in-house caterers have been dishing up some tasty lunchtime treats for the students at the school.

Following its success the caterers have now launched their own commercial venture, called Jurassic Coast Catering.

As part of the venture, all of the profits made by the sale of the catering services will be re-invested into the school, which will go towards providing students with all the facilities and provisions they need.

Maria Smith, director of resources at the academy, said: “Jurassic Coast Catering provides additional income that we are able to reinvest in teaching and learning across IPACA.

“In addition to this it will provide an opportunity for our older students to gain some valuable paid work experience under the guidance of catering professionals. It’s a win-win for education and business.”

Chris Wilson, IPACA’s executive chef, said “We pride ourselves on working with locally produced ingredients and we work with local suppliers.”
