WEYMOUTH'S seafront is set to come alive with colour with a spectacular firework display in aid Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Weldmar, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, and local businesses and organisations are working together in partnership to offer residents and visitors a firework spectacular on Sunday August 30.

The display, kicking off at 9.30pm, will be enhanced with Weldmar fundraising activities during the day from 10am, and into the evening, on the seafront opposite the rear of Marks and Spencer.

A growing number of Weymouth and Portland businesses are working with Weldmar to host the August Sunday night fireworks whilst raising important funds for the hospice.

Jon Panton, Weldmar's business fundraising manager, said "It is important to stress Weldmar are the beneficiary and are not using any of our supporters monies to finance this event. We see the potential to turn this situation into a positive for everyone involved, and are pleased to be the benefitting charity. This will be an opportunity to raise funds for the care of our patients whilst sustaining and developing this traditional summer event in Weymouth."

Head of firework business group, Phil Say, said: "Celebrating the second year of trading at the Weymouth Pavilion as a successful community enterprise we are delighted to be part of this group aiming to provide a great seafront firework display."

The borough council will be working with Weldmar Hospicecare Trust to help manage the event.

Cllr Jason Osborne, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council’s tourism and culture brief holder, said: "It's fantastic that both tourists and local residents will be able to enjoy fireworks on the beach at the end of August. I would like to thank all the businesses that have helped to finance this event, and especially to Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

"The council is always keen to work in partnership with businesses and charities to bring bigger and better events to the borough. I would encourage everyone to come down to watch the display and raise money for a brilliant local cause at the same time."

Weldmar is keen to hear from any Dorset based business that would like to contribute to the big fireworks on Weymouth seafront.
