The Echo report "Bigger plates lead to bigger waistlines" [September 28] reminds me of some very good advice which a GP we knew gave to any overweight patient many years ago. He would not recommend any diet or advise on any diet.
His advice to reduce weight was: Throw away your large dinner plates and buy smaller ones. He felt that eating sensible-size meals was the best way to lose weight.
I often think of his advice when I see restaurant diners gorging themselves on plates piled high with food. The growing trend to have "Sunday carveries" isn't helping matters either. For people appear to be greedy and, judging by the amount of meats, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and stacks of vegetables on their plates, I reckon they must be eating for England.
