A SECOND ukulele battle of the bands and cider festival will be hoping to hit all the right notes.

Last year’s event was such a success that ukulele bands from across Dorset are once again coming together to been crowned the best.

As well as enjoying ukulele music, guests will be able to enjoy cider and even have a go at cider making on the cycle scratter and apple press.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 3 at St Edmunds Church Hall in Weymouth.

The event is raising money for the Margaret Green Animal Care Centre and the Wyke Ukedelics.

The aim is to raise money for the group to buy a new bass ukulele with extra money going to the care centre.

There will also be a hog roast, tea, coffee and homemade cakes also available for people to enjoy.

Events start at 11.30am with apple themed games for the whole family from apple gold to the apple and spoon race.

From 1pm until 2pm there will be a workshop and jamming session and then from 2.30pm local bands will be competing in the Battle of the Bands competition judged by the Mother Ukers.

The judging will be done in the style of Strictly Come Dancing.

After judging the Mother Ukers will then be presenting the trophies with performers judged on their presentation, musical ability and group overall performance.

Organiser David Ferris is looking forward to the event once again.

He said: “There will be lots of things to do for the whole family. We hope it will be an enjoyable day.

“Some of our music stands are falling apart so we want to raise money for them.

David is looking forward to seeing the whole Dorset ukulele community come together again for the event Performers will include the Wyke Ukedelics, Weymouth Ukuleleans, The Lyme Regis Luggers and the Swanage Ladies.

As well as judging, the Mother Ukers will take to the stage at 5.30pm themselves.

The competition will start with the novice category followed by the improvers and advanced groups with each group choosing three songs to perform.
