A MAN has been jailed for six months for trying to smuggle micro-mobile phones into a Dorset prison.
Dorset Police said that Isaac Donovan, 28 and of Hackney in London, was handed the jail term at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 5.
On the same day at the same court, Donovan pleaded guilty to attempting to bring a prohibited article into prison.
Officers said the court heard that on Sunday, September 6, Donovan tried to smuggle two micro mobile phones into Guys Marsh Prison in Shaftesbury when visiting one of the prisoners.
The court heard he had tried to conceal the devices but they were discovered by prison officers during a routine search.
Donovan was arrested by police shortly afterwards at the prison and charged with the offence the following day.
Detective Constable Siobhan Lovering, of Western CID, said: “I welcome this sentence as it demonstrates the robust treatment that these kinds of offences will lead to.
“The rapid outcome of this particular case is due to a sound collaborative approach between Dorset Police and the Prison Service.”
Security Manager Austen Cornell, of Guys Marsh Prison, said: “We welcome the support offered by our partners at Dorset Police as part of our joint initiative to curtail criminal activity within the custodial environment.
“The deterrent displayed by this conviction reinforces the message that crime at Guys Marsh will not be tolerated.”
