A MISSING teenager was airlifted from Studland after he was injured falling from a sand dune.

The 14-year-old boy had been reported missing to Dorset Police on Saturday morning.

Police were involved in an active search for the teenager throughout the day.

He was found at 5.30pm in the sand dunes at Knoll Beach, Studland with a dislocated knee.

It is believed he had fallen from one of the high dunes during a walk.

Dorset Police and South Western Ambulance, who were also called to the scene, requested assistance from Swanage Coastguard.

After assessing the youngster, the coastguard team from Swanage decided a helicopter evacuation was required due to the location, the youngster's injury and the falling temperature.

A spokesperson for the Swanage Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Due to the location, the injury and the temperature, the Coastguard team requested a helicopter evacuation, so the National Maritime Operations Centre tasked Rescue 106 from Portland.

"With the help of the National Trust, a safe landing area was secured and the services all worked hard to ensure a speedy and safe evacuation.

"Rescue 106 flew to the Poole landing site at Whitecliff where they were met by Poole Coastguard."

Ambulance personnel were also seen waiting at the landing site to transport the casualty to hospital.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said they were called to Studland at 5.17pm on Saturday, to reports someone had been playing in the sand dunes and had fallen.

As the casualty was airlifted to Poole, paramedics were no longer required at Studland and left the scene.

All services left the beach just before 7pm.
