THE daughter of a popular Weymouth dinner lady is walking 13 miles for charity in her memory.

Karen Savva, 42, is taking part in the 10th annual Playtex Moonwalk and hopes friends of her mother Jeanette Gorman, who died last year from breast cancer, will help her to raise £1,000 for Breakthrough.

The midnight walk on Saturday, May 19 will see 15,000 women - and some men - power-walking in their decorated bras and T-shirts in Hyde Park, London, on either the full 26.2-mile course or the half-moon course of 13 miles.

Mrs Savva of Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire, said: "My mother died just over a year ago from breast cancer, a Weymouth lady born and bred like myself, and I am doing the walk to remember my mother's courage in her fight against breast cancer.

"My mum was well known in Weymouth and I thought it would be a great way of her friends remembering her."

Jeanette Gorman of Cobham Drive was a dinner-lady at Westham School for 14 years and then worked at various elderly care homes in and around Weymouth.

She was 61 when she died - 16 years after being diagnosed with cancer, and may also be known by her previous names of Jeanette Lee or Jeanette Northover.

Mrs Savva said: "My hope is that no other individual should go through the suffering my Mum went through and that no other person should die because of misdiagnosis or the incorrect treatment.

"If anyone remembers my wonderful, fun-loving Mum or even me, please, please go onto my website www.bmycharity.com/karensavva and donate whatever you can afford to help support Walk the Walk, this fantastic charity behind the Playtex Moonwalk.

"You can also contact me at m4kcs.savva@btinternet.com"

She added: "People may remember me by my maiden name of Karen Lee.

"I hope to get sponsorship and support from my mum's old friends.

"Although it would also be great to think that old friends of mine would like to sponsor me as well."
