YOUNGSTERS enjoyed brewing up potions from the past in Dorchester.
They found out how old herbal medicines were used to ward off evil smells and prevent diseases at a family day at Dorset County Museum.
The eventrevealed how modern medicine had evolved and changed over time.
Families were invited to grind up a poultice made with flour and leaves and investigate medicinal recipes from the 16th and 17th centuries, and then copy them out using a quill and ink.
Visitors left with homemade natural bath products after creating bath tea bags' using sweet-smelling herbs in a muslin bag, tied with a ribbon, to be hung under a tap.
Lavender and herbs were used to make traditional pot-pourri and uplifting scents, and young adventurers learned which herbs could be used to clean teeth.
