A CARER from Dorchester has proved she soars above the rest after scooping a prestigious award.

Bex Symes, care manager for the county town branch of Bluebird Care Dorset, was named as the winner of the home care manager of the year category in the Great South West Care Awards 2015.

She has been the care manager of the Dorchester office since summer this year, and the office has gone from strength-to-strength in the short time she has been in the post.

She said: “Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.

“I’d like to dedicate this award to the entire Dorchester team as I would not have achieved this success without their matchless commitment and effort.”

The award ceremony was also attended by Bluebird Care Dorset directors Joanne McMahon and Chris Scriven and Supervisor, Cat Pearce, who all congratulated her on her award.

Chris said: “We are all very proud of Bex. She is an asset to our service and the embodiment of what a good care manager should be’.

Following this win, Bex will now progress to the National finals with the other regional winners from across the country with the overall winner to be determined next Spring.

Bex added: “It’s exciting to now be one of the finalists for a top national award in the care sector but it also helps to remind me that I need to keep focusing every day to provide the best for our customers in order for Bluebird Care to meet their high expectations of us.”

Bluebird Care Dorset had also been shortlisted in the care innovators category for the third year in a row but had to settle for being finalists this time around having won the regional award in 2013 and been finalists again in 2014.

The Dorchester office of Bluebird Care opened in May 2014 and currently delivers care at home visits to more than 80 vulnerable adults across the West Dorset area.

Plans are currently afoot for the opening of a further Bridport office early in 2016 to create a more local presence in the western half of the district.
