A BAR manager from Weymouth has been recognised for his role in trying to make the town centre a safer place.

Keith Treggiden, general manager at Rendezvous and the Royal Oak on the harbourside, has been recognised for his role as chairman of the Pubwatch scheme in the town.

Mr Treggiden has been the chairman for nine years, and has launched a number of initiatives in the town to try and make the town, especially during the late-night economy, a safer place.

He was presented with a commendation award by the Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Cllr Christine James, and Jon Shipp, and National Pubwatch Regional representative Jon Shipp.

He said he had enjoyed his time in the role and hoped it would continue to be a success in the future.

He said: “I wasn’t expecting to receive this award. I’m really touched to receive it. I am happy to see that all the hard work and effort does not go unrecognised.

“The Pubwatch scheme has changed significantly over the years and what I’m most pleased to see is that the membership grows year on year.

“All members get the full support from being in a national scheme.”

The award was presented as Mr Treggiden announced that he plans to step down at the next annual general meeting of Pubwatch, bringing an end to his almost decade-long stint as chairman.

Pubwatch is a national scheme which towns are encouraged to join.

The scheme promotes best practice in bars and clubs and it also helps to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve the night time economy.

Mayor of Weymouth and Portland, Cllr Christine James, said: “Keith has done a great job in his role as chairman.

“It was my pleasure to be able to arrange for Pubwatch to come and present Keith his award in person.

“I would like to thank Keith and the other bars and clubs signed up to the scheme for their continuous hard work to showcase best practice in their businesses and help improve the night time economy of the borough.”

It is believed that a new chairman will be elected at the AGM, which will be held in February 2016.
