IN ORDER to save money Dorset County Council proposes to close all 22 youth centres in Dorset and transfer youth workers to work in schools. An on-line consultation is taking place and closes in about a week’s time.
Youth workers in youth clubs and centres in Dorset provide invaluable facilities, training and counselling for young people in a safe environment free from drugs, alcohol and high energy drinks, far beyond what is and might be available through schools.
If enough people respond to the survey DCC may reconsider their proposals. The address is dorsetforyou.com/youth-services-consultation.
I would ask as many people as possible to look at the proposals, complete the survey and write in the box at the end why they consider it important that the youth centres remain manned by trained youth workers, particularly those in Beaminster and Bridport.
