KEEN ice skating enthusiasts are in for a n-ice surprise as the town’s rink will be opened for an extended period of time.
Organised by the Weymouth Business Improvement District, BID, the rink will now be open until January 3 due to popular demand.
The rink, which is located outside Debenhams on New Bond Street, was hit with technical difficulties in its first two days, as it was used as part of the BID’s opening night for the BIG Christmas event.
Nigel Reed, manager of the Weymouth BID, said he was pleased the rink would be open for longer.
He said: “Many people have asked us why the ice rink will not be in town for the whole of the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
“With this in mind and partly due to some of the technical issues faced when opening the rink for the first time, our suppliers were happy to agree to an extension.
“There has been a great response from those that have experienced the Ice Rink and we would like to thank the suppliers of the ice rink, Icescape, Danco PLC and ICS Cool Energy for providing this opportunity for more people to have a go.”
The Ice Rink is open every day apart from Christmas Day, from 11am until 7pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am until 4.30pm on Sundays.
The BIG Christmas event was organised by the Bid to try and attract more people into Weymouth town centre during the Christmas period.
Each weekend there are a host of activities planned throughout the town centre, and next weekend is no different.
There will be a feast of music filling the airwaves, with the Out Loud Music Festival returning to the town centre after its successful first event during the summer.
Over the two days, local artists will take to the stage to perform Christmas classics as well as chart-topping hits for the crowds, with the festival supported by the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club.
Then, in the four days leading up to Christmas, there will be a Christmas market in the town centre as stallholders try to flog their wares.
