A PROPERTY developer from Weymouth has donated hundreds of pounds to a disabled children’s charity to try and ensure they have a merry Christmas.

Mickey Jones, chief executive of DJ Property, has donated £350 to west Dorset-based Butterflies Charity.

Mr Jones donates to a local charity each year in lieu of sending cards to the firm’s clients and this year decided to donate to Butterflies because of the work they do in supporting disabled youngsters.

The funds will now be used to purchase specialist equipment for the charity, which will be used by the people it helps.

After presenting the cheque to the charity, Mr Jones said: “2015 has been a good year for South Dorset businesses, and at DJ Property we work hard to ensure that we visit as many of our customers on a regular basis and therefore I can say “Merry Christmas” to most of them personally.

“It is important that community organisations and charities are supported by the local business community at all times but especially at this festive time of year.

“The reason we chose Butterflies as our charity this year, is that they are local charity working with children with disabilities.

“Butterflies are a great example of a local charity doing great things for the local community over many years.”

Butterflies was first founded in 1975 and provides help, care and support to disabled people under the age of 18.

The charity helps the disabled use Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust’s children’s centre in Dorchester.

Cath Irving, chairman of the Butterflies Charity, thanked Mr Jones for the donation.

She said: “We are so grateful for all donations received into our charity. The charity is run by volunteers; all contributions go straight to the purchase of specialist equipment. We would like thank Mr Jones, his family and company very much for their generosity.”

The donation rounds off a successful year for DJ Property, which has seen occupancy levels at the Granby Industrial Estate remain high, and construction on the £14 million third phase of the Chickerell Link Park begin.
