Bomb disposal experts were called to a West Dorset beach after a buoyant smoke flare washed up.
The incident happened on Friday afternoon, when the item washed up on Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis.
Dorset Police said that Royal Navy explosive ordnance disposal officers attended, x-rayed the device before deeming it safe.
