TOUCHING tributes have been paid to Scott McCafferty after his body was found by police.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police launched a major search operation for Mr McCafferty, 33, after he was reported missing on January 4.

He had been last seen leaving Tesco on Castle Street in the early hours of the morning two days earlier.

As part of the search operation, specialist police divers trawled the River Tone desperately searching for Mr McCafferty, and he was found a month later on February 4 in the river near Ruishton.

Scott's family were informed of the find on Friday, and now, Avon and Somerset Police have launched an investigation on behalf of the coroner.

A spokesman from the force said: "The body of a man has been found during the search for missing Scott McCafferty.

"Mr McCafferty, 33, was reported missing on 4 January from the Taunton area.

"The body of a man was recovered from the River Tone near Ruishton at approximately 12pm on Friday.

"While formal identification is yet to be carried out, Mr McCafferty’s family has been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and we are now carrying out enquiries on behalf of the coroner."

Following the tragic find, hundreds of people took to social media to post their own heartfelt tributes to Mr McCafferty, who was described as "the loveliest of guys".

Nicci Messenger said: "RIP Scott. Thought are with his friends and family."

Allie Chapman commented: "Hope you find peace now Scott."

After Scott's sister posted her own heartfelt tributes to him on Facebook, hundreds of people took to the social media site to send their condolences to the family.

Danielle McIntyre posted: "I am so so sorry. Scott had the biggest heart and will never be forgotten. Sending love to you all."

Lorraine Warren said: "I'm so, so sorry. This is the saddest news and I'm keeping you in my thoughts.

"Scott was the most loveliest of guys and I feel lucky to have known him for so long and to call him my friend. May he rest in peace."

Leanne Jeanes said: "Scott was a beautiful person.

"Devastated at another loss of one of the best. Scott I love you and will cherish our lovely memories."
