STYLISTS put their most weird and wonderful creations to the test in a hairdressing competition.

Snippy students at Weymouth College rose to the challenge of the annual event and - with the help of some patient models - showcased a range of bold designs to an eager audience.

The themes for this year's competition were Retro Hair and The Movies.

And around 60 future hairdressers from first and second-year courses - including mature students - demonstrated their creative flair in front of friends and family, and salon owners.

Hairdressing and beauty therapy programme manager Terri Pashen said: "The competition went extremely well and the styles were magnificent.

"The students had some ingenious ideas and the creativity they displayed was fantastic."

The hairdressers are studying toward NVQs and some are working as apprentices in salons.

Judges at the event were: Alison Worral, of Tahnees Hair Studio, Wyke Regis; Rebecca Brumble, Weymouth Hair and Beauty Supplies; Nigel Ross, of Nigel Ross Hair Studio, Parkstone; and Jon Purkiss, of Wella.
