BAR worker Malcolm Hodge, 47, of Westham, Weymouth, said smokers will just have to put up with the ban.
He said: "I've got to lump it. I smoke socially and I would love to stop, perhaps it might give me the encouragement to do it.
"It will be interesting to see how the ban affects things. I think they are bringing it in at a good time to give people a few months of hopefully good weather to get used to it.
"It's not going to stop me coming out.
"I work behind a bar so yes, it might well help me to stop, with a bit of luck.
"I've discussed it quite a lot with my friends over the last few months, and we think it might help."
