AN out of school club has been praised by Ofsted after being rated good following its latest inspection.

When inspected in March last year, Manor Minors Out of School Club was rated as requires improvement by Ofsted but has now turned it round to and was rated good following an inspection last month.

The club runs before and after school as well as during school holidays at The Bungalow at Manor Park First School.

An Ofsted report praised the pre-school’s staff as well as the wellbeing of the children.

It was rated good in all three areas assessed by Ofsted – effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment and personal development, behaviour and welfare.

The report stated: “Staff help children to successfully learn the skills they need for their future development in partnership with the schools they attend. Children confidently manage tasks for themselves to build their independence and self-confidence.

“Children are happy and excited on arrival at this lively club. Staff provide children with continuous outdoor play opportunities and active games to promote children's physical development well.

“Staff provide many opportunities for children to learn about keeping themselves safe. For example, children visit local centres to learn about the dangers associated with strangers, and they practise road safety on outings.”

The report also praised the nursery for staff and management continuously reflecting and evaluating the quality of activities and care of the children.

Manager at the club, Lee Watts, said: “We’ve taken it up to good and everyone is very happy.

“The praise for the staff, for me is probably one of the best things because they do a great job.”

The report also outlined what the club needed to do in order to be rated outstanding.

It stated: “Staff do not always provide sufficient clear floor space to help children play undisturbed and unhindered by others around them.

“Staff do not always encourage younger children to share their ideas or make their own decisions in activities to extend their imagination and creativity further.”

The report recommended developing the organisation of floor activities to promote children’s play further and extending opportunities for younger children to contribute their ideas and make more decisions in creative activities.
