LIKE a lot of people these days you probably woke up this morning and thought: “I could really do with some jungle mash-up with some reggae breaks this weekend.”

Well, you’re very much in luck because the mighty Dub Pistols are returning to Weymouth tomorrow night, Saturday, April 16 with another hot and sweaty night at Actors Mainstage, the former Factory.

Tearing places apart for 20 years now, Barry Ashworth’s gang of hip-hop gunslingers and dancefloor bangers are firm favourites on the festival circuit, playing just about every one, including Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Blissfields etc, and a few more that probably haven’t been invented yet.

Their last gig in Weymouth was a total smasher, according to all those who were there and are still in rehab and, amazingly, there are just a few tickets left for tomorrow’s show which features the always fab local hipsters Cuba Libre as support.

Tickets at £12 are available from Rabbit Hole Promotions online on Facebook or you could take a chance and leave it till tomorrow night on the door. But don’t come crying to me if you’re left outside looking like a muppet, okay?

Moving on, the band Tankus The Henge sound as though they should have been one of the Rev Awdry’s characters in Thomas the Tank Engine.

You know, the one that never left the shunting shed till way after bedtime, had a right old row with the Fat Controller, a night on the pop with the Troublesome Trucks and then went home with Annie and Clarabel.

However, they’re a six-piece monster folk/funk/punk outfit from that London who list their influences as Gogol Bordello to Abba, which is okay by me.

According to the band’s gumph, they generate a groove that makes it impossible to stand still, their live show ebbs and flows like a small boat on a turbulent sea.

Well, it’ll have to be a very high tide because they’re at the Dorchester Corn Exchange tonight, Friday, April 15 and tickets are £10 on the door.

Next up, it’s the Weldmar Colour Run this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17 at Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth.

There are no places left for runners but there is a great line-up of live music with the Speedway Snails, The Riffs and Coyote on the Saturday, and Hustle, Nina Garcia and Chill on the Sunday.

And finally, I was browsing my extensive collection of wax cylinders the other day and I was struck by how many medieval and renaissance lute extended 12” remixes I had: None.

So it proves quite serendipitous then that next Thursday, April 21, the remarkable lutenist and guitarist Kevin Avebury will be staging a lunchtime concert at Dorset County Museum in Dorchester.

He’ll playing the smash hits from Now That’s What I Call Music: The 1300-1600 Years from 1-2pm and he’ll be joined by another quite brilliant fret-worrier, the famous flamenco-ist Bernardo. It’s a free concert, but a donation of just £3 would be just dandy, thanks. You just can’t beat a lunchtime out luting, can you?

Till next time…
