A BLAZING car on a petrol station's forecourt has been battled by fire fighters.

Crews from Bridport were called to the Morrisons' petrol station in Bothenhampton, near Bridport, at 3.05pm this afternoon.

The car, a blue Polo with a trailer, was well alight when they arrived on the scene.

A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue said: "There was no danger of the fire spreading to the fuel pumps or storage areas.

"We knew from the outset that the guys at petrol stations are very good at sealing everything off.

"We had it under control by 3.35pm.

"The vehicle was completely destroyed."

Fire fighters used breathing apparatus when dealing with the blaze and extinguished it using one hose reel.

The South West Ambulance Service was not called to the fire and there were no reports of any injuries.

Dorset Police were alerted to the incident at 3.08pm but were not required to attend.
