ARE you ready to take on the Charmouth Challenge this weekend?

The event will see more than 250 runners, supported by friends and family, flocking to the beautiful village for the challenge and fun run.

Road closures will be in place to make sure that young and old alike will be able to complete the course in safety. Wesley Close, Bridge Road and Stonebarrow Lane will all be closed from 2.30pm to around 3.30pm, while Lower Sea Lane and Hammonds Mead will be closed from 2.30pm to around 4.30pm. On Lower Sea Lane there will be a break between 3.15pm and 3.25pm when the road will be open. Organisers have said that on this occasion there will be no alternative routes for diverted traffic and marshals will line the route.

Andy Morel owner of Abode Flooring and Home Accessories in Charmouth, said: “The Charmouth Challenge increases visitation to the village and so we do see a rise in people through our doors when events like this happen. We definitely view it as a positive event that brings opportunity for the shops in the village.”

To date the event has raised more than £70,000 for Charmouth Primary School to support and enhance the education of Charmouth’s children. It has funded the school’s beach project which enables the children to enjoy learning activities away from a classroom like identifying plants, rock pooling, shelter building, cooking and geography and of course palaeontology or the study of fossils.

Mrs Morris, Head Teacher at the school, said: “We feel very blessed to be able give our children these opportunities that would not be available if it were not for the monies generated by the Charmouth Challenge and we give our heartfelt thanks to all the people in our community that help make this race happen.”
