LETTER: "We need to make Park & Ride changes clearer"

As most people know, instead of the dedicated service the Number 2 First bus service has been diverted to run via Sainsbury’s and the Park and Ride roundabout.

The no 2 service does not go into the site itself as the Council run dedicated service did but it has a bus stop close to the roundabout.

So at about 11.30am last Saturday I drove round the P and R site to count the cars. The answer was 28 cars parked up but as I left the site I noticed some 10 people standing and waiting in the old P and R shelter.

I stopped and walked over and asked if they were waiting for the bus which they were. I pointed out to them where the new No 2 bus stop is – just out of sight round the bend.

They all set off thanking me for telling them.

After they had left I looked around the old P and R shelter. There were two large notices and maps explaining the new arrangements. Also there are signs on the lamp posts pointing the way to the new No2 bus stop.

So no excuse really all quite clear if you look at the posters.

An hour later, returning from shopping, I drove round the site again and unbelievably there were a further eight people waiting in the shelter!

Once again I went over to them and directed them to the new just out of sight bus stop.

One lady said she had not been to Weymouth since last year and was a bit surprised by the new arrangements.

At that moment, as they all moved off, it started to rain so I was asked if there was a shelter at the new stop which of course there is not.

Noone is to blame for this odd situation and I am sure it will keep happening for a while yet.

The only improvement that could be made is an ‘A’ board standing right in the middle of the old shelter with instructions on. People might notice something they trip over! The other thing of course is that a bus shelter for the Weymouth bound no2 bus is very much needed.
