FROM folk music to free running, this year’s Anonymous Festival in Dorchester promises to offer something for everyone.

Music lovers will be in for a treat at the historic venue of Maumbury Rings when the popular annual event organised by young people in the county town returns for another year.

There is a packed programme of performers and activities lined up for the free event, which runs from noon to 6pm on Saturday, August 27.

The festival will showcase young musical talent from across the region, with the nine acts on the main stage including Declan Millar, a folk musician who accompanies himself on an open tune guitar and winner of the best newcomer competition at the Bath Folk Festival.

Also performing will be Wise Intention, an alternative rock band made up of three brothers, and headline act Fast Decline, a five-piece group from Somerset who are promising to serve up a lively mix of ska, funk and Gypsy music.

There will also be performances from Pop Club, Kennedy, Ten Zero One, Tapley and Stocker, The Inca’s and a new ensemble performance put together specifically for the event.

Emma Scott, who coordinates the festival, said: “Anonymous is a fantastic event as it showcases some incredibly talented younger musicians.

“In addition, the activities are great fun - and where else can you spend a day with this much fantastic entertainment laid on for free!

“The young people who have helped to organise the day, the youth forum Dorchester Youth Extra, should be applauded for all their hard work fundraising to pay for the event.

“It really will be somewhere for you to spend the whole day - so bring a picnic or take advantage of the food on sale.

“Also, We still have a couple of spaces left in our open mic tent for performers to come forward – so do get in touch if you would like to sing a few songs at the event or maybe tell some jokes or perform some magic.”

As well as music there will be plenty more to enjoy with a chance to try free running and slacklining as well as a bouncy castle and inflatable bungee run.

The day will also include graffiti and craft workshops and there will be a photo booth for people to have their picture taken with family and friends.

One highly visible visitor will be a 35-foot Victorian Iguanadon, which will take centre stage in an outdoor theatre production.

The festival organisers are keen to thank Dorchester Town Council, Keep Love Sweet and West Dorset District Council for their support for the event and is also grateful to have received an Awards for All National Lottery grant.
