ORGANISERS of this year's Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride are urging people giving up smoking to get on their bikes on July 1, the first day of the ban.

Cyclists of all ages and abilities will be celebrating by taking part in the event, which is aiming to raise £50,000 for local cancer patients.

The ride has a choice of four circular routes: 15 miles, 25 miles, 40 miles and 60 miles.

All the money raised will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Former England cricketer and TV personality David Gower said: "I have known Macmillan for many years now and have always been amazed at the great work it does. Come and join in on July 1 and you can help raise much-appreciated funds for a great cause in a way that is both fun and healthy."

Cyclists can enter individually or in teams of four. There are marshals and signs to guide them on their chosen route, regular refreshment stops, bike mechanics, and massages at the end. For details log on to macmillan-bike-ride.co.uk or ring 01202 601705.
