FIREFIGHTERS from Weymouth are taking part in a marathon charity trek to conquer three mountain peaks in 24 hours this weekend.

Members of Blue Watch, plus two family members, are taking on the Three Peaks Challenge to support the League of Friends of Weymouth and Portland Hospitals.

In their sights are the highest mountains of England (Scafell Pike 978m), Scotland (Ben Nevis 1,344m) and Wales (Snowdon 1,085m).

Seven people will be doing the walking and they will be leaving the driving to three firefighters.

When they return the crew will be hosting a charity night at the fire station which is being sponsored by new Weymouth restaurant Sense.

It is hoped to raise enough money to buy at least two syringe drivers for the League of Friends. The devices allow terminally ill patients to leave hospital and receive medication at home.

The fire station band Hoosier will be providing the entertainment at the charity night on Friday, June 29. Tickets priced £5 are available from the station on North Quay.
