HOWEVER anyone voted in the referendum, we should all be alarmed by the reaction of the right-wing press to this latest ruling.
Amongst the general hysteria on offer we were invited to condemn the ruling because a judge was ‘openly gay’ (the Telegraph), Gina Miller was ‘foreign born’ (the Mail), and of course there are many references to the ‘elite’ (Miller, who has worked as a chambermaid, worked her socks off to get where she is).
These knee-jerk bigotries are increasingly replacing considered argument in our press.
I urge anyone who doesn’t believe that birthplace or sexuality affects ones worth, anyone who thinks working hard and doing well is not to be enviously sneered at, to boycott these papers.
This constant hateful language is diminishing the entire country.
