PUDDLETOWN 66

LYTCHETT MINSTER II 7

PUDDLETOWN eased to a mammoth 66-7 victory over Lytchett Minster Seconds as they racked up the tries against a side that could only field 12 players at the start of the game.

With the visitors struggling for numbers, the hosts lent them two players before kick-off to even the game up.

As expected, Puddletown started the stronger and, within a few minutes, were five points up after player/coach Sam Cload went over in the corner from a well worked lineout.

The lineout again bore fruit with the men in red winning another on the 22m line. The ball was spun out to centre Tom Yeatman, who broke through Lytchett tacklers to score under the posts. He then converted his own try.

After 25 minutes the Lytchett full back cleared his lines with a downfield kick, only for it to be fielded by his opposite number, Sam Bailey, who ran it back with interest.

He fed the ball out through the back line, with winger Sam Pomeroy going over in the corner for an unconverted try.

The home side increased their lead after Cload made a searing break in the midfield and spun a long pass out to winger James House who weaved through three Lytchett defenders to score an unconverted try.

Before half-time, Puddletown scored again through James Hill who ran half the length of the pitch to touch down, after an initial break from number eight Dan Udell.

Lucas Frizzle added the conversion to make it 29-0 at the break.

With a couple of visiting players arriving for the second half and Puddletown still supplying an extra player, it was up to 15-a-side.

Pomeroy made a break down the blind side at the start of the second half and passed inside to debutant Tom Nickerson who went over to score an unconverted try.

The hosts ran the ball at every opportunity and Cload once again broke through the Lytchett defence to set up Frizzle who went over to score another try.

The visitors seemed invigorated by their additional players and applied some good pressure and drove up to the five-metre line however, some excellent counter-rucking from Udell turned over the ball and it was fed through Puddletown hands to captain Jez Beale, who scored under the posts with Bailey adding the conversion.

Soon after, Pomeroy once again received the ball on the blind side and scored his second unconverted try of the game.

The Lytchett team did not give up and continued to compete strongly up front through their heavy pack and they were awarded a penalty from a scrum, which was taken quickly to score a converted try under the posts.

Puddletown once again took control and scored three unanswered tries through Beale, House and Bailey, the latter being converted by Frizzle to seal the rout.
