JASON Brookes is thrilled to be helping out the Magpies even if it is an unfamiliar position.

Management and fans alike praised Brookes after his performance at right-back during Dorchester’s victory over Cinderford Town – one that included their first clean sheet in the league since October.

Speaking about his performance, Brookes, who is keeping player-manager Mark Jermyn out of the team, told Echosport: “It’s new for me but it gives me more respect for the defence. I’m trying to listen to the staff and it’s great having Matty (Oldring) and Nathan (Walker) alongside. Before the game we said we needed a clean sheet.

“It was important for us to get the win and the clean sheet.”

He added: “I’m loving it (at right-back). It was such a long time for me to get back into the team. It’s great to get a run and hopefully I can keep my place.”
