BRIGHT sparks are being sought for an exciting opportunity with the fire brigade.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is on the lookout for the next batch of Fire Cadets.

Managers say the Fire Cadet Youth Programme is not only a great way to develop new skills, make new friends and have fun, but is often the first rung of the ladder for those wanting a career within the fire and rescue service.

The brigade is now getting ready to start the annual Fire Cadet Youth Programme within the Dorset area.

Aimed at 14 to 16 year olds across the county, the Fire Cadets scheme has been developed to support young people by providing positive role models and giving them access to a wide range of activities.

In addition, the programme allows all the participants to work towards a BTEC Level 2 qualification, which is equivalent to a GCSE credit.

The programme lasts for 20 weeks and places are limited, with weekly sessions running on Monday evenings from February to July of next year.

The service welcomes anybody who is interested in the programme to get in touch and speak directly with Youth Prevention Co-ordinator,

Applicants will be invited to meet members of the Youth Prevention Team in January to fully assess their suitability for the programme.
